Accelerated uses result in the generation of brake dust, which if unprotected, might lead to toxic airborne pollutants.

These brake pads must ideally be used in situations that do not often demand large braking applications. Since they wear out regularly and do not call for expensive exchanges, keeping costly Kevlar brakes as substitutes are advised.

Semi-Metallic Materials

This is what the majority of the brake pads are made with today. With a combination of both metallic and synthetics, they are bound together with organic resins that yield great durability. They are made into pre-made shapes and baked for hours to make them resistant to heat and water. This type requires more pedal power to create an equal braking force.

These are normally used in cars where heavy braking is predominant and longevity is desired. This is best used for heavy vehicles that require high kinetic energy due to higher torque inputs. Made with sintered steel, graphite, or steel, they have higher thermal connectivity.

Ceramic Materials

Steel pads might lead to brake fade and hence switching to ceramic materials is the wisest decision. Considered to be the costliest, they are the high-spec pads used in supercars. They can withstand very hard and violent braking actions. They are ideal to be used in endurance racing adventures to yield their best function.

The clay in its core gives the advantage of a high coefficient of friction. Hence, the racing vehicles find their best use in it.
